International Pencak Silat Championship 2010

‘Kejohanan Pencak Silat Antarabangsa 2010 Piala Timbalan Perdana Menteri’. It was stated at the backdrop of the stage, the banners at the whole building, the nametag and the free t-shirt. It was everywhere. You named it! I was in awe and shocked! Well, lemme tell the details before I go further. The championship was held on 28th September – 3rd October 2010 at IOI Mall, Bandar Putra, Kulai, Johor Darul Takzim. It were sponsored and held by the Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education and cooperated with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) and National Silat Organization (PESAKA).
Just a day after I got back from Sibu, I was being told about UTHM Open. Well, obviously I’m not that ready for the game and the lack of stamina plus my weight was not enough for my class which is 45kg (Class A). They said just come for the training which was every single day and they will see about it. So, I came and trained with them. My weight was so unpredictable. For certain time, it was OK and for some certain time, it was KO! Only God knew how I ate all the food that time. I really controlled my food intakes which were no oily foods, no ice in drinks, no gas drinks, and ect. We did the med check-up and fill the form. For the last time, I weighted my body at the clinic and whatdya know, I need to gain a kg more. I told Fendi about it and he gave me a really GOOD advice. ‘Makan banyak lagi!’. So, I ate and ate and ate until almost all of my cash went to the food expenses.
When the BIG day arrived, never once, crossed in my mind that it was an international championship. I always thought that it was matches between Higher Learning Education Institution (IPT) IN Malaysia, not AROUND Malaysia. Well, no back off ladies! The show must go on! They were so many matches, more than 300. The other IPTs were Singapore’s Polytechnic and Vietnam Military Institute. Besides IPT, highschoolers also joined the competition which used the name of their respective states or origin. The whole Malaysia’s states were there excluding Sarawak, KL, Perlis, Penang and Selangor. Even Labuan sent their representatives for the comp and I was wondering when Sarawak and UNIMAS will sent their players. I really wanna see Sarawak’s flag being wave at the comp. Other places were Singapore and Indonesia (Tanjung Pinang and Acheh) also sent their players.
Friday 1st Oct, the 211th was my match. Me vs Nguyen Nhu Hoa from Vietnam. The first time I saw the list, I was freaking out, nervous and scared. I saw how they fought and they were physically strong. Cikgu always said ‘aneng ngirau’ to me. He wanted to see me not scared of the opponent and it worked a little bit. He didn’t speak much during the match cause that was the 1st time he saw me fought. Unfortunately, I lost the fight and she moved on to semi-final. During evening, it was Tas’ match and lost to Vietnamesse too. However, Kak Pika’s match during the night session really brought joy to the crowds as she won the fight against the Vietnamesse (score: 3-2) and moved on to final. Woohoo!!
The UTM’s players that moved on to the final matches were Fendi and Kak Pika. And whatdya know, they WON the fight!! Congratulations guys!!! Here are the namelist for the UTM players who join the championship.
